Prayagraj, Feb. 12 -- Preventing Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav to go to Prayagraj on Tuesday by the UP government irked the SP party workers, leading to major clash between the volunteers of the Chatra Sabha--students wing-- and the police in the Sangam city.

The Chatra Sabha led by SP Badaun MP Dharmendra Yadav, clashed with the police at Balson crossing in the Sangam city in which several students and police personnel were injured, sources said.

Reports said that police had to resort to caning to disperse the agitating students, who were protesting and sitting on dharna against the detention of Akhilesh at Lucknow airport. The Chatra Sabha activists pelted stones on the policemen, reports added.
