Chandigarh, Jan. 12 -- In a significant shift from its earlier position, the Akal Takht on Monday called upon the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to extend cooperation to the Punjab Police in the investigation into the disappearance of 328 'saroops' (sacred copies) of Guru Granth Sahib.

In an official statement, Acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, appealed to Sikh leaders, spokespersons, and scholars to maintain restraint and refrain from making allegations against any individual or organization until the police investigation is concluded. He said premature statements were contributing to confusion among the Sikh community.
