Mumbai, Dec. 17 -- Senior Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) leader and Maharashtra Sports Minister Manikrao Kokate has been sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 in connection with a government quota housing allotment scam.
The Nashik District and Sessions Court upheld the conviction awarded earlier by a First Class Judicial Magistrate and also directed Kokate's arrest.
Following the court's decision, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the political and administrative implications. The meeting reportedly focused on the redistribution of portfolios currently held by Kokate in the event of his removal from office.
