Nagpur, Nov. 8 -- Airfares from Nagpur to Mumbai have surged to as high as Rs 21,000, even during the off-season, sparking frustration among passengers.
On Thursday, several travellers reported paying these steep fares and booking platforms continued to show similar rates on Friday.
Currently, eight daily flights operate on the Nagpur-Mumbai route, with Air India running two flights and IndiGo operating six.
Experts attribute the high ticket prices to limited competition between the two carriers, allowing airlines to set arbitrary rates based on booking trends and timing.
During last Diwali, fares on routes such as Pune-Nagpur reportedly reached up to Rs 40,000, while private bus operators charged as much as Rs 6,000.
