Muskan BhatiaNew Delhi, Dec. 7 -- As the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Saturday announced a price cap to rein in soaring airfares amid week-long disruptions at IndiGo, India's largest airline, citizens and travel operators expressed concern that the new fare slabs may end up becoming a benchmar for ticket prices across the country.
Under the government's directions, fares for domestic routes up to 500 km (such as Delhi-Lucknow and Ahmedabad-Mumbai) have been capped at Rs 7,500. Routes between 500-1,000 km (Delhi-Udaipur, Hyderabad-Chennai) are capped at Rs 12,000, those between 1,000-1,500 km (Delhi-Mumbai) at Rs 15,000, and distances over 1,500 km at Rs 18,000.
