Washington, Aug. 6 -- Nearly 100% of the 10,000 unionized flight attendants working for Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge have voted in support of a strike action, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) said.
"The Air Canada Component of CUPE, the union representing over 10,000 flight attendants at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge, says its members have voted 99.7% in favour of strike action, if necessary," CUPE said in a statement on Tuesday.
CUPE's overwhelming strong strike mandate is a reflection of the flight attendants' "deep frustrations" after months of fruitless talks, the union said. Air Canada has refused to engage in good faith on issues pertaining to unpaid work, work rules, and poverty-level wages, it added.
