Mumbai, Aug. 1 -- A significant rift has emerged within the Indian National Congress as All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Vice-President and party leader Obaidullah Khan Azmi today launched a scathing attack on the outfit's Mumbai unit chief Varsha Gaikwad over her response to the 2006 Bombay train blasts acquittals.

Recently, in a strongly worded letter, addressed to Congress bigwig and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, party President Mallikarjun Kharge, and General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, the former Rajya Sabha member demanded immediate condemnation of Gaikwad's statements.
