Hyderabad, May 9 -- All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President, Asaduddin Owaisi, on Saturday expressed concern over the sharp increase in cotton and polyester-cotton yarn prices, stating that the sudden hike was severely affecting India's micro powerloom sector.
In a post on social media platform X, the AIMIM president said weaving hubs including Malegaon, Bhiwandi, Ichalkaranji, Surat, Varanasi, Erode and Coimbatore were facing serious economic distress due to rising yarn prices.
Owaisi said yarn prices had surged sharply within a month while fabric prices remained stagnant, pushing small weaving units into severe losses, production cuts and closures.
