Mumbai, Sept. 23 -- Maharashtra's Agriculture Minister Dattatraya Bharne has announced that farmers affected by excessive rain will receive compensation before Diwali.
Recent heavy rains have destroyed crops across nearly 70 lakh acres in the state, with topsoil washed away in several regions, Bharne said. Vidarbha has borne the brunt of the damage, followed by Marathwada, even as rain continues in parts of Maharashtra.
Farmers whose loss assessments (panchanamas) have been completed have already received compensation, and surveys for the remaining farmers are being expedited to ensure quick relief.
