Jaipur, March 10 -- The Rajasthan government has now done away with the eligibility norm of 2-child ceiling for the contestants in the Municipal polls.

For implementing this cabinet's proposal the state Assembly today passed by a voice vote the Rajasthan Municipalities (Amendment) Act 2026.

The amended Act deleted and rephrased sections 24 &18-2 of the Municipalities Act 2009. With this, parents of more than 2 children would be eligible for contesting elections for councillor, ward member, the mayor and the chairperson of municipality. The ban on contesting polls on the (cured) leprosy patients has also been lifted.
