Shimla, Sept. 8 -- Taking a U-turn on its September 6 decision to withdraw additional higher grade pay benefits, the Himachal Pradesh Government today deferred the move after massive protests erupted across the state.

The Finance Department issued a fresh notification, putting the earlier order in abeyance on "administrative grounds" till further orders.

The reversal came after large number of government employees stormed the State Secretariat here and choked its parking area this morning.

Similar protests were reported outside Deputy Commissioner Offices in district headquarters, where employees held gate meetings and refused to join duty.
