Shillong, Feb. 17 -- After Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is issuing "fake certificates and degrees" to students, the Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday demanded a thorough probe by a neutral agency.
"This time around, the accusation is serious and demands a thorough probe by a neutral agency. While it's true that anyone can make an allegation, the fact remains that the charges have been brought by the sitting Chief Minister of a neighbouring state which alone makes it a matter of genuine concern," Wankitbok Pohshna, the State General Secretary of BJP Meghalaya, said.
