New Delhi, Dec. 10 -- Strong northwesterly winds brought a small respite to national capital today, ending the 8-day streak of 'very poor' air, although temporarily.

Delhi recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 282 on Tuesday, a slight improvement from 314 (very poor) a day earlier.

Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed that winds picked up from Monday morning, clocking a speed of 15-20 kmph throughout the day, preventing night-time stagnation. Experts noted this consistent wind flow helped disperse pollutants that had accumulated over the past week.
