Afghanistan launches mass polio vaccination drive for 7.3 million children
Kabul, July 21 -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health has launched a four-day polio vaccination campaign targeting 7.3 million children under five.
The country, along with Pakistan, remains one of the two countries where wild poliovirus is still endemic.
Despite efforts since the late 1990s, conflict, insecurity, and misinformation have hindered vaccination drives. With WHO and UNICEF support, large-scale immunization campaigns have saved millions of children from paralysis, but access issues and resistance persist in some provinces.
