Deoband (Saharanpur), Oct. 11 -- Afghanistan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, who was visiting Deoband today, cut short his visit and returned to Delhi.
His scheduled speech at Darul Uloom was cancelled, and he departed two and a half hours earlier than planned.
Muttaqi was originally expected to stay until 5 p.m. but left at 2:30 p.m.
Controversy emerged during the visit when women journalists covering the event were placed under restriction.
The media in-charge of Darul Uloom asked women reporters to sit behind a curtain.
Earlier, Muttaqi was welcomed with a shower of flowers upon arrival.
Students rushed to meet him, and the crowd was so large that security cordons were breached, requiring police to manage the situation.
