Kandahar, June 1 -- Authorities have completed construction of a water catchment dam in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province to help overcome water shortage, reported the state-run Bakhtar news agency on Sunday.
Constructed in the Takhtapul district for 35.9 million afghani (around 521,000) U.S. dollars funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) would help the area to overcome water shortage, the state-owned media outlet added.
With a length of 245 meters, 16.5 meters in height and a capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters, the newly constructed dam would also help the residents of Takhtapul and adjoining areas to bring more land under irrigation.
