Kabul, Jan. 1 -- At least five people were killed, and one other was injured after the roof of a mud house collapsed amid heavy rainfall in western Afghanistan's Herat province, a local media outlet reported on Thursday.

The incident occurred in the Kabkan region of Obe district on Wednesday, after intense downpours weakened the structure. The victims included a woman and four children, Ariana News quoted a local official.

Over the past three days, most parts of Afghanistan have experienced heavy rainfall and snowfall, triggering flash floods in several regions. In a separate incident, heavy rain and flooding claimed one life and injured four others in the neighboring Farah province on Monday night.
