Kabul, June 2 -- Security personnel have discovered and destroyed a drug processing lab in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, a spokesman of the National Army in the province, Nazir Ahmad Shukib, said Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the security personnel launched operations and discovered the drug lab in Shorabak district on Sunday, the official said.

The security personnel during the operations also recovered 146 kg of materials used in manufacturing heroin and set them on fire, the official further said, adding that five individuals have been detained and referred to judiciary organs for further investigation.
