Kolkata, Dec. 5 -- Congress Working Committee member Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday raised concern over the December 6 deadline for registering Waqf properties on the UMEED Portal, urging President of India to intervene and extend the time-frame.
Chowdhury in a letter to the President of India noted that West Bengal, with over 1.5 lakh Waqf properties, faces extraordinary challenges-mainly the absence of adequate historical documentation-making it impossible to complete registration within the current deadline.
Chowdury, former West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) chief, had earlier written to the union Minister for Minority Affairs on the same issue, highlighting the severe difficulties and requesting an extension.
