New Delhi, Nov. 1 -- A social activist from Sonia Vihar, North-East Delhi, has alleged that he was kidnapped and held hostage for over two hours by members of a local mining mafia when he went to the Yamuna river belt to expose illegal sand mining. An FIR was filed in this connection at Alipur PS.
Sunil Chaudhary, who runs an NGO named Karawal Nagar Parivartan Sangharsh Samiti, said the incident took place on October 22 when he went near the Yamuna River in Sungarpur village, which falls under Alipur police station limits, to expose illegal sand mining activities. "At that spot, a lot of illegal mining happens. The NGT has also passed orders against it. We wanted to expose the local officials and the mafia," Chaudhary said.
