Shillong, Jan. 11 -- The Meghalaya unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said that Dilseng M Sangma, a member of the A'chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK), was killed in an alleged mob violence on Friday was carried out "by a group of people involved in illegal mining" in Garo Hills.

Sangma succumbed to his injuries after he was assaulted on Friday evening in Goalgoan village under Rajabala assembly constituency in West Garo Hills district.

Police have arrested three persons in connection with the assault and death.
