Srinagar, Feb. 11 -- Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday said that achieving statehood for Jammu and Kashmir needs persistent engagement with the central government.

"One must maintain close ties with New Delhi to ensure that Jammu and Kashmir's problems are resolved", Bukhari said

In a statement after the interview with a Kashmir-based news outlet, Bukhari stated that regaining statehood for Jammu and Kashmir could be a time-consuming process and that achieving this goal requires persistent engagement with the central government.

The Apni Party President criticized those who claim that statehood will be restored automatically just because the Home Minister has committed in this regard on the floor of Parliament.
