Shimla, June 2 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued its Long Range Forecast for the 2025 Southwest Monsoon Season, predicting above-normal rainfall for Himachal Pradesh.
According to the report released today by the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, the state is expected to receive more than 109 per cent of its Long Period Average (LPA) rainfall between June and September.
This forecast brings a mix of optimism and caution. While enhanced rainfall may support agricultural activities and recharge groundwater, it also increases the risk of floods, landslides, and infrastructure damage in the hilly terrain of Himachal Pradesh. The normal seasonal rainfall (based on the 1971-2020 average) for the state is 734.4 mm.
