Chandigarh, Jan. 5 -- The murder of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch during a wedding ceremony in Amritsar has triggered political and administrative alarm in Punjab, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann seeking a detailed report from Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
The incident took place at the Marigold Resort, where Jarmail Singh, the serving sarpanch of Valtoha village in Tarn Taran district, was attending a wedding from the bride's side on Sunday evening.
According to police, two armed assailants entered the marriage palace while the sarpanch was seated at a table with other guests. Within moments, he was shot from behind, causing panic among those present.
