Chandigarh, Sept. 12 -- A sessions court in Tarn Taran has sentenced Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator, Manjinder Singh Lalpura to four years of imprisonment in connection with a 2013 assault and molestation case. The ruling puts Lalpura's political career at risk, as he may lose his assembly membership. The court also directed him to pay compensation to the survivor.

The case dates back to March 2013, when Lalpura, then working as a taxi driver, was accused of harassing a woman during a wedding. The complainant alleged that Lalpura and others assaulted her, used caste-based slurs, and threatened her family. Five police officials were also found guilty in the case, while three others were not taken into judicial custody.
