New Delhi, Jan. 13 -- The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a temporary reduction in the pollution of the Yamuna river for electoral purposes.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, AAP's Delhi State President, Saurabh Bharadwaj, alleged the move was timed around the recent Chhath Puja and the Bihar Assembly elections.
Bharadwaj claimed that the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Haryana deliberately diverted irrigation water from canals in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh into the Yamuna. He stated this was done at the Hathnikund Barrage to dilute industrial pollution and sewage waste in the river, making it appear cleaner for approximately one week during the Chhath festival.
