Ch. Sambhajinagar, Nov. 18 -- Amid a worsening agrarian crisis that continues to grip the Marathwada region, frequent crop losses and inadequate compensation have pushed many farmers to desperation, with 899 farmer suicides reported in the past ten months.

In one recent incident, a banana orchard cultivator lost his entire crop when the Sina river flooded. The farmer had finalized a deal to sell nearly 100 tons of bananas at 25,000 rupees per ton but received only 25,000 rupees as compensation for the complete destruction of his produce.
