Mumbai, Dec. 29 -- With the Goa nighclub fire tragedy claiming 25 lives, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has kicked off a special drive to ensure public safety and inspected 1,221 establishments, out of which 79 were found violating the fire safety norms, officials said on Monday.

They said action was taken against 59 establishments, while 20 received notices.

Ahead of New Year's celebrations, the inspected venues include hotels, restaurants, pubs, bars, and malls, with 10 malls, 25 five-star hotels, 148 pubs, and 628 restaurants were checked.
