Yangon, March 28 -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 jolted 16 km NNW of Sagaing, Myanmar at 06:20:54 GMT on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 22.01 degrees north latitude and 95.92 degrees east longitude.
Xinhua reporters in Yangon reported that the tremors were strongly felt in the capital Nay Pyi Taw and the largest city of Yangon.
As of now, the Myanmar government has not released any information regarding the earthquake's magnitude or the extent of damage. Attempts by Xinhua to contact the epicenter region were unsuccessful.
