Kathmandu, May 30 -- A total of 694 climbers and guides had scaled the world's highest Mount Qomolangma from the Nepali side during the spring climbing season, the Department of Tourism announced on Friday.

Among the summitters of the 8848.86-meter-high peak that straddles Nepal and China, 257 were foreigners, nine were Nepali nationals, 421 were Sherpa guides and seven were from the rope-fixing team, the department noted.

Nepal has permitted 468 climbers to climb Mount Qomolangma during the spring climbing season which started in April and runs through May.
