Sydney, June 18 -- Six teenagers have been hospitalised with serious injuries after an allegedly stolen vehicle crashed at high speed in northern Melbourne in Australia's state of Victoria.

A police statement said on Wednesday that officers spotted the vehicle, which was reported stolen on Tuesday, driving at speed in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle, but it was spotted again by the aerial unit and monitored until it rolled near the entrance of a freeway in Epping, 20 kilometres north of central Melbourne, after 1:20 a.m. local time.
