Chandigarh, Nov. 11 -- Voting for the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election in Punjab concluded at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with a voter turnout of 59.28% recorded till 5 p.m.

Officials said the figure may rise slightly once final data is compiled. Police sealed all polling station gates immediately after the voting period ended.

The bypoll, which was necessitated by the death of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal, witnessed 15 candidates contesting. Among the prominent ones were Congress's Karanbir Singh Burj, Shiromani Akali Dal's Sukhwinder Kaur, and AAP's Harmeet Singh Sidhu. Interestingly, a voter named Jagdish Singh travelled all the way from the Philippines to cast his vote.
