Itanagar, Dec. 15 -- An estimated 56.33 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the local body elections in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, officials said.

Polling for the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) across the state, along with elections to the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) and the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), began at 7 am amid tight security arrangements. The polling process remained largely peaceful, barring a few stray incidents of clashes between supporters of rival political parties.

State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary Taru Talo said the overall polling percentage is likely to increase as reports from several districts are yet to be received.
