Chennai, Oct. 9 -- In yet another incident of excesses by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel,47 fishermen from Tamil Nadu were apprehended in high seas today, even as Chief MinisterM K Stalin wrote to External Affairs Minister (EAM) seeking urgent steps to secure theirrelease using diplomatic channels along with their boats.
This was the first incident this year that fishermen were arrested in a large scaleon a singleday.
Official sources said the fishermen, hailing from the Rameswaram in Ramanathapuramdistrict, were arrested in two separate incidents on charges fishing in the Sri Lankanterrotorial waters after crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
