Hyderabad, Nov. 17 -- In a tragic road accident in Saudi Arabia, 45 Indian pilgrims from Hyderabad lost their lives when their bus collided with a diesel tanker in the early hours of Monday.

According to a statement from the Telangana Haj Committee, all the deceased were residents of Hyderabad including 17 men, 18 women and 10 children.

The pilgrims had left the city on November 9 for Umrah through four different travel agencies. The accident occurred nearly 25 km from Medina, after the group had completed their Mecca pilgrimage.

The Telangana Government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the victims. The decision was taken at the State Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday.
