Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 30 -- A state-wide enforcement drive by the Kerala Police has resulted in the imposition of fines totalling Rs 12.69 lakh on 4,099 buses found operating with doors open, violating traffic safety regulations.

Officials warned that running buses with doors open poses serious risks to passengers, particularly during sudden braking, sharp turns or in congested city traffic. They pointed out that the practice has been a contributing factor in several serious and fatal accidents in the past.

The inspections, conducted from August 20 to 26 under the supervision of the Inspector General of Police (Traffic & Road Safety Management), covered 32,203 buses across the state. Violations were detected in more than 4,000 cases. ...
