Puducherry, April 9 -- An estimated 37.70 per cent of the total 9.53 electorate cast their ballots till 1100 hrs, as the polling to elect the 30-member Puducherry Territorial Assembly continued peacefully, amid tight security.

Brisk turnout was witnessed in all the 1,099 booths as the polling which began at 7.00 AM was proceeding smoothly, barring some initial hitches in EVMs.

Election Commission of India officials said 37.70 per cent turnout was recorded in the first four hours till 1100 hrs and the polling to decide the fate of 294 candidates in the fray, was proceeding smoothly.

Police said no major untoward incident was reported in any part of the union Territory and polling was being held peacefully.
