Mumbai, Aug. 3 -- The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) is modernizing its firefighting arsenal with 35 advanced battery-operated smoke exhausters to combat hazardous basement fires across the city.

The Rs 72.58 lakh initiative comes as high-rise buildings, malls, and multiplexes with multi-level parking facilities increasingly face the challenge of toxic smoke accumulation during emergencies.

Each of Mumbai's fire stations will receive one portable exhauster unit, replacing the brigade's outdated 2012 models. The new equipment addresses critical limitations of the current system - where heavy, cable-dependent exhausters often delay response times.
