Chennai, Jan. 27 -- In yet another incident, a total of 34 fishermen--32 from
Tamil Nadu and two from Kerala--were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for
allegedly fishing in their territorial waters, even as Chief Minister M.K. Stalin
urged External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar to take diplomatic
steps to secure their immediate release.
The fishermen, hailing from Rameswaram fishing harbour in Ramanathapuram
district, were fishing near Dhanushkodi, when they were apprehended along
with their three boats by the Lankan Navy.
Expressing concern over the frequent detentions, Mr Stalin wrote to the EAM
again requesting him take necessary urgent action through diplomatic channels
to prevent such arrests and to secure their immed...
