Kolkata, June 24 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at BJP-ruled states for allegedly targeting Bengali-speaking migrant workers, following reports that around 300 labourers from Itahar in Uttar Dinajpur district have been detained in Rajasthan on suspicion of being illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

Speaking in the state Assembly on Tuesday - the last day of the monsoon session, Banerjee revealed that she had received information from Itahar MLA Mosaraf Hossain regarding the detention of the workers, many of whom reportedly hailed from Khisahar and nearby villages. According to Banerjee, the only "offence" these workers committed was speaking in Bengali.
