Sambhal, Oct. 15 -- A 30-year-old mosque located adjacent to the Shri Kalki Dham temple in Sambhal district was demolished by local authorities on Tuesday under heavy security arrangements.

The demolition operation lasted for about an hour and was carried out without any resistance from local residents.

The mosque, often referred to locally as the "Chhoti Masjid," was found to have been built on 262 square meters of land officially designated as a public park.

The total park land measures over one hectare.

The issue came to light around four months ago after villagers lodged a complaint with the local revenue officer (lekhpal).

Following an investigation, the mosque was deemed an encroachment on public land.
