Srinagar, Aug. 29 -- The Forest Department today booked three alleged habitual timber smugglers under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The PSA is a preventive detention law which allows the government to detain a person without trial for six to 12 months if he is considered a threat to public order or security of the state.

Conservator of Forests, Kashmir North Circle, Irfan Ali Shah, emphasized that detaining habitual timber smugglers in PSA delivers a clear and firm message to all offenders.
