Kabul, May 30 -- Three people, all members of the firefighter brigade, sustained injuries as an orphanage caught fire in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Thursday, head of the fire department Sayed Ahmad Agha said Friday.
The fire broke out in the four-storey building Mohammadi Orphanage in Police District 12 of Kandahar city, capital of Kandahar province, on Thursday, the official said, adding the firefighters reached the site and extinguished the fire within hours.
Some 200 orphaned children receive education at the orphanage, according to the official.
Three firefighters sustained injuries in the fight against the fire, which also damaged the orphanage worth 200,000 afghani (around 3,000 U.S. dollars), the official added.
