Yavatmal, Jan. 6 -- A major irregularity has surfaced in Shendursoni village of Arni taluka in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, where more than 27,000 birth and death certificates were issued despite the village having a population of just around 1,300.
The shocking revelation has triggered an inter-state investigation, prompting the Maharashtra government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for a detailed probe.
The scam came to light after Yavatmal district health officials audited the Civil Registration System (CRS) portal of the Shendursoni gram panchayat. Official records show the village population to be approximately 1,300.
