Sitapur, Aug. 13 -- A 26-year-old youth from Jaswantpur village died after allegedly being brutally beaten by police in the Sidhauli Kotwali area of Sitapur district today.
The incident has triggered outrage among the victim's family and local residents, who are demanding justice and strict action against the accused officer.
The deceased, Satyapal Yadav, son of Sobaran Yadav, ran a small grocery shop in Jafripurwa and was reportedly sleeping in his shop on the night of the incident on Tuesday. According to Satyapal's cousin, Amit Yadav, the Bhundia police outpost in-charge, Sub-Inspector Manikant Srivastava, was on patrol duty when he stopped by Satyapal's shop and woke him up for questioning.
