Shillong, Nov. 1 -- Twenty-one family members were rescued after an unruly mob attacked their house, accusing them of practising witchcraft.
The incident occurred late last night when a mob numbering around 200 people had encircled and vandalised the house of Ham Shangpliang at Khliehshnong, Sohra.
The violent attack was sparked by allegations of witchcraft made by a minor boy, who claimed to be under a spell cast by Shangpliang.
Vivek Syiem, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, said the Block Development Officer and Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Sohra rushed to the area to take stock of the situation and to protect the residents.
