Zagreb, July 6 -- Magnus Carlsen beat India's D Gukesh in the Blitz format and moved into the lead in the 2025 SuperUnited Croatia Rapid & Blitz being played here.
Gukesh had got the better of Carlsen in the Rapid format on July 3, but yesterday the Norwegian secured an easy win over him.
Gukesh is World number 1 in the Classical format while Carlsen is World number 1 in the Rapid and Blitz formats.
Gukesh, who had topped the Rapid format of the 2025 SuperUnited Croatia Rapid & Blitz had a forgettable day on Saturday as out of the nine rounds in the Blitz played yesterday, Gukesh lost seven.
His solitary win was against World No. 3 Fabiano Caruana, and he played out one draw against compatriot Anish Giri.
