Islamabad, June 30 -- Security forces have foiled a major terror attack in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing a suicide bomber and his handler during an intelligence-based operation, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) said.

In a statement, the CTD said the operation was carried out in Shamshato area on the outskirts of Peshawar, the provincial capital, following credible intelligence about a planned large-scale suicide attack targeting a sensitive installation in the city.

During the exchange of fire, two militants affiliated with a banned outfit were killed, the CTD said.
