Jerusalem, May 17 -- Two people were killed early Saturday in a fire that broke out in a three-story residential building in Deir al-Asad, an Arab village in northern Israel's Galilee region, medical authorities said.

Israel's national emergency service, Magen David Adom, confirmed that a young boy, Karam al-Asadi, was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother Ruba al-Asadi suffered critical injuries from smoke inhalation and later died at Galilee Medical Center (GMC) in Nahariya city.

Two other children, an eight-year-old girl who was critically injured and a three-year-old boy who sustained serious burn injuries, were hospitalized.
