Mangaluru, May 30 -- Torrential rains continued to lash Dakshina Kannada on Friday, leaving behind a trail of destruction and despair, as at least two people lost their lives and several more remain unaccounted for amid landslides and sea fury. In Belma village's Kanakere, the monsoon claimed its youngest victim - 10-year-old Fathima Nayeem - who died after a compound wall, loosened by days of pounding rain, collapsed onto her home. The child was pulled from the debris and rushed to hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead. The local community was left shattered by the loss.
